Privacy Policy

Overview

WindowShelf is a native macOS application developed by Simatik d.o.o. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data WindowShelf accesses, what it stores, and what it does not do.

Data We Do NOT Collect

WindowShelf does not:

Accessibility Permission

WindowShelf requires macOS Accessibility permission to function. This permission allows the app to:

WindowShelf never reads the content inside your windows, documents, text fields, or web pages. It only accesses window metadata (title, position, size, app name) through the macOS Accessibility API.

Local Data Storage

All preferences and usage data are stored locally on your Mac in the standard macOS UserDefaults system. This includes:

These settings and usage counters stay on your Mac. They are not synced to iCloud and are not shared with third parties.

Anonymous Install and Update Telemetry

WindowShelf sends a minimal anonymous telemetry event to windowshelf.app in two cases only:

Each event contains only an anonymous install identifier, the current app version, the previous version for update events, an approximate install channel, the platform, and a timestamp. When macOS still preserves download-origin metadata on first launch, the app may also include a referring page host/path, a download URL host/path, and common UTM campaign parameters so we can estimate which install sources are working. Internal/test installs can also be marked so they stay out of production-facing totals. It does not include your name, email address, window titles, document names, browsing history, or any content from your Mac.

We use this data only to estimate how many installs are active, how many users successfully update between versions, and which anonymous download sources lead to successful first launches. When configured server-side, non-internal install/update events may also be mirrored into our Google Analytics 4 property as anonymous app lifecycle events for reporting consistency.

Automatic Updates

WindowShelf uses Sparkle (an open-source framework) to check for updates. When checking for updates, your Mac connects to windowshelf.app to download the appcast XML file. This connection uses standard HTTPS.

Feedback Emails

If you choose to send feedback from within the app, WindowShelf opens your default email client with a pre-filled message that includes diagnostic information about your device and app settings. This data is shown to you before sending, and you can review, edit, or remove any information. The email is sent directly from your email client — WindowShelf does not send it on your behalf.

Website Analytics

The WindowShelf website (windowshelf.app) uses Google Analytics 4 to understand visitor traffic and download-button clicks. The macOS application does not include advertising SDKs or behavior tracking, but it does send the limited anonymous install and update events described above.

Third-Party Services

WindowShelf uses the following third-party components:

No other third-party SDKs, analytics tools, or ad networks are included in the application.

Children's Privacy

WindowShelf does not knowingly collect any information from children. The app does not collect information from anyone.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date.
